How to reach Ivan Dolac – Hvar

Here are some advice on how to travel to Hvar island in Croatia. The easies way to Hvar depends on how and where from you are coming.

If travelling by car, bus or train, you are to come to Split or Drvenik in the Middle Dalmatia, from where you can continue by ferry. From Split, car ferries sail to Stari Grad, and catamarans to Jelsa and Hvar town. From Drvenik (south-east of Makarska) car ferries sail to Sućuraj on the Hvar island. All the above connections are daily.

There are also seasonal international lines from Italy, Ancona – Hvar and Pescara – Hvar, as well as the longitudinal Adriatic line from Rijeka to Dubrovnik and vice versa, that calls in Hvar. Time tables and other information are available in the offices of the line operators, Jadrolinija, on their internet site www.jadrolinija.hr.

If travelling by air, the nearest international airports are in Split, Dubrovnik and Brač, from where you can continue to the ferry ports in Split or Drvenik by bus, taxi or rented car.

Regardless of how you travel, you will have a pleasant experience of travelling by sea to the island, on your way seeing other nearby islands of Brač, Šolta, Korčula…, depending on whether you are travelling via Split or Drvenik.
